In recent years, there has been a boom in hiking in Hong Kong. Especially in the past two years, Hong Kong people cannot travel to other places, and they have to reconnect with nature. Every holiday, many Hong Kong people will go to the countryside with friends to challenge different mountain routes and enjoy the natural scenery.

Today I will introduce an easy but scenic mountain route called " Dragon's Back "


How difficult is Dragon's Back?

This difficult is moderate and suitable who less do exerise usually, and there is not much inclination and fluctuation, because this route is only 8.5 kilometers long, and it only takes about 4 hours to complete the whole journey (including the time for rest and photography), and because the itinerary Short, only need to bring enough water and food.

f departing from Shau Kei Wan, You can take bus No. 9 or the red minibus, get off at "To Lei Wan" stop, and follow the signs

If you are departing from Central (only on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays), you can take bus No. X9, get off at "To Lei Wa" stoIp and follow the signs

The First Stop: Shek O Peninsula Viewing Point



From Shek O Road, you will initially stroll through a concealed way onto this part of the Hong Kong Trail. About a moment into your climb, the way will open up to the sky as you rise. Following 20 minutes or somewhere in the vicinity, here you can overlook the Shek O Beach at the foot of the mountain, two small islands outside the Shek O Peninsula. The blue sky and clear water are very charming.


The Second Stop: Shek O Peak



The viewing platform of Chengding Mountain can overlook Shek O, Big Wave Bay, Tung Lung Island, and the splendid view of the waters to the east of Hong Kong Island. The section of the mountain path fromShek O Peak to " Wan Cham Shan " rises and falls like the back of a soaring dragon, hence the name "Dragon's Back".


The Third Stop: Dragon's back and pottinger gap

When you climp uphill  at the Dragon's Back Hike Viewing Point, you can take rest on the bench for an incredible perspective on the Tai Tam Bay west of Shek O Peninsula. On a sunny morning, even Lamma Island, toward the southwest of Hong Kong Island, is noticeable from the deck. When over the ridge, you'll show up at Pottinger Gap. Here you get a perspective on Chai Wan's metropolitan elevated structures.


The Final Stop: Big wave bay




Since it will be the most difficult part of the journey to go down about 1,000 stone steps from Matang Au to Big Wave Bay; therefore, it is recommended that you take a break before the trip. Take the mountain trail to the estate, and then go to Big Wave Bay to complete this trip to Longji. Come to the surfing spot of Big Wave Bay and enjoy it at the beach!


To Leave the big wave bay

Take a red minibus or taxi from Big Wave Bay back to Shau Kei Wan. You can take other public transport from here to the districts
